Our Crystal Right Evolve Systems offer an all-in-one treatment of iron, manganese and hardness. Designed for private water supplies, the system features a clever backwashing valve with a built-in chlorine generator, which is used to sanitise the media bed during regeneration and prevent the build-up of bacteria. Supplied with a separate brine tank, the system regenerates the media using a brine solution in the same way as a water softener. Available in sizes to suit varying flow rates and daily usage requirements.

Choosing System Size

Choose a system initially based on the peak flow rate that you need to treat. Capacity is a further consideration, so the system should be sized to give a minimum of 3 days service between regenerations. To adequately size a Crystal Right system, you will need to consider the following:

Peak Flow Rate
Your peak flow rate is the maximum amount of water that requires treating within a given period. This figure should not exceed the service flow rate of the chosen system. This figure should be easily able to accommodate your maximum water usage, with considerations for spikes (eg; additional guests, future extensions or water requirements). Overestimating your peak flow rate is recommended to future-proof when choosing a suitable system.

Daily Water Usage
An approximate daily water usage figure will help you establish whether the level of the capacity of the system will be sufficient for your requirements. The average person in the UK uses around 160 litres of water per day, a four person household uses approximately 640 litres per day. You should also consider any additional water requirements, for example swimming pools, hot tubs and outbuildings.

Apparent Hardness
You will need to know the apparent hardness of your water in mg/l. This can be obtained by performing a water analysis, or by using figures from a recent report. Apparent hardness is calculated as follows:

Apparent Hardness mg/l = Total Hardness mg/l + (Sodium mg/l x 2) + Iron mg/l + Manganese mg/l

Sizing Your Crystal Right Evolve System
Once you have all the information required, you can use the following calculation to help with sizing:

(System Capacity @ 100mg/l x 100) ÷ Apparent Hardness

The result of this calculation will tell you the total volume of water (in metres cubed) the system can treat between regenerations. Compare this figure to your approximate daily water usage to ensure it gives at least 3 days of treated water. A practical example of this calculation is shown below.

(21.8 x 100) ÷ 300mg/l = 7.26m³ Between Regenerations

If a farm uses 2,000 litres of water per day, the above calculation shows a 13” x 54” Crystal Right System will provide approximately 3-4 days of service before regenerating.

CRYSTAL RIGHT EVOLVE SYSTEMS

Iron, Manganese & Hardness

Crystal Right systems are popular for the treatment of soluble iron, manganese, hardness and low levels of ammonia in private water supplies. It works using ion-exchange technology and is regenerated using a brine solution. Crystal Right is most effective with clear water (where iron and manganese are in dissolved form). Our systems feature the market leading Evolve valve, which not only controls regeneration but also features a built-in chlorine generator that produces up to 20ppm of chlorine to disinfect the media, reducing iron and sulphur bacteria. With Crystal Right media the backwashing flow rate is lower than the service flow rate, meaning there are no specific requirements for pumps.

For water with a pH between 6-7 (will increase the pH)
Combination of Manganese & Iron: Up to 15 PPM
Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S): Less than 0.5 PPM
Hardness as CaCo3: >50 ppm minimum required
No aluminium should be present in feed water
Iron must be in soluble ferrous form
Minimum TDS: 80 PPM

How Often Do I Need To Replace The Crystal Right Media?
When used appropriately the media has a lifetime 20+ years, with some systems running in excess of 35 years with the original media. To ensure the media is backwashed correctly, ensure the brine tank is kept topped up with salt at all times.

If you're thinking about a water softener then i HIGHLY recommend Ultra Soft Water Softeners Ltd.

Great softeners and exceptional customer service. The water softener I bought needed some adjustments with the installation setup where I supported throughout. The customer service is honestly next level. I had countless calls with Becky Gillett, the Sales Manager, over a period of months to get to the bottom of it.
